No Filter Included Nov 20, 2008 You don't find out until you read the manual that you have to purchase a filter separately. Not included. Not good business.

The fire department just left. Nov 20, 2008 I purchased a Hello Kitty humidifier for my daughter on October 28th. It's been run and well-maintained in a the few weeks we've had it. Unfortunately, tonight the motor caught on fire. Thankfully, the smoke alarms alerted us and the fire department before a tragedy happened - my seven year old was asleep in the room. I will be alerting the manufacturer and amazon of the safety concerns, but in the meantime, you might want to skip this purchase until it's deemed safe. I will not forget the haze in my daughter's room when the door was opened tonight for a long time.
The fire department confirmed that the problem was with the humidifier, although it was being used correctly. Hopefully this was an isolated incident, but please be wary of this product.

awesome! Nov 18, 2008 I was so sick one day, absolutely miserable. 15 minutes before Target closed I ran in and grabbed the elephant and ran out. This little guy has worked better than any other humidifier I've bought. Super easy to clean--no hidden nooks and crannies. Also, the water lasts longer than in others I've bought. It lasted a couple of days on about 75% power. I don't even care that it's a kiddy thing but it's awesome. According to other reviews it might take a dump, but we'll see.

WOWWIE QUIET! Durability pending. Nov 18, 2008 We had a bout of croup recently. We didn't have a humidifier with us and bought one. We had previously owned a Relion Ultrasonic humidifier which was quite and put out a lot of mist but was a pain to clean. Initially, we bought a Vick's unit that looked very much like the Relion. The Vick's model was really really noisy! We replaced it with a Hunter evaporative version that was also very noisy and the pump kept cavitating. Both of those were returned quickly!
So after reading reviews on this site, we bought the penguin version of this Crane humidifier.
WOWWIE is this unit quiet!! Really very quiet! You turn it on and there is an ever so faint noise - the sound of water droplets falling back down the mist pipe and back into the water is *louder* than the mechanism at full operation.
Mist output is a little low and the mist jet only shoots out about 2 feet or so *and* the jet angle is low -- thus you have to place it up on a stool or nightstand very close to the head of a child with croup to get maximum benefit.
If this unit output a little more mist and if the jet nozzle was more articulated, it would be a big improvement.
This unit gets 6 stars for quiet and 2 to 3 stars for output.
These are FIRST impressions. Durability will be determined later.

It lasts only one season Nov 18, 2008 I had high hopes for this relatively inexpensive humidifier after reading the reviews on here, and it worked well for one winter. But this year, it makes a horrible grinding noise whenever it is operated. That despite following the instructions to the letter on cleaning and operation. And, of course, the warranty is only one year. So it's heading to the trash. If you want to spend the money for a product that might get you through one season, go ahead. Those looking for a product that is actually reliable should look elsewhere.
